Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has issued a tender seeking advisory services for a significant renewable energy project. The project entails the development of a 1,600 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant coupled with a 1,000 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capable of six hours of storage. This initiative will be executed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. (Zawya)
The tender was floated on November 14, 2024, with a submission deadline of December 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM. This project aligns with DEWA’s ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio, building upon previous phases of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Notably, the sixth phase of the solar park, awarded to Masdar in August 2023, involves a 1,800 MW PV project. (DEWA)
DEWA’s commitment to integrating large-scale energy storage solutions is evident in its existing projects, such as the 250 MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, expected to commence trial operations in the first quarter of 2025. (Zawya)
This new tender underscores DEWA’s dedication to enhancing energy storage capabilities and increasing the share of renewable energy in Dubai’s energy mix.
